For decades, the "timeline" has been the dominant metaphor in video editing and creative software. But as Generative AI introduces non-deterministic outputs, we need a new paradigm.
The Linear Trap
Traditional tools assume you have the assets before you start editing. You import footage, cut it, and arrange it. But with AI, the assets are generated during the creative process. A linear timeline constrains this exploration. It forces you to commit to a sequence before you've even discovered what the scene could look like.
"We are moving from an era of assembly to an era of curation and direction. The interface must reflect this shift."
Node-Based Fluidity
This is why we bet on node-based workflows for Creativly. Nodes allow for non-linear exploration. You can branch a prompt into five variations, process them differently, and merge the best results back together—all without cluttering a timeline.
In the early alpha, we are taking this further with "Flow Focus". It creates a hybrid view: keeping the power of nodes under the hood while presenting a simplified, distraction-free canvas for the final assembly. It's the best of both worlds.
We believe this hybrid approach is not just a feature, but the standard for how all creative tools will function in the AI era.
